Read the AQI colors

The particle-pollution AQI describes outdoor health concern. It is not an indoor air measurement or a percentage of smoke.

0–50Good
51–100Moderate
101–150Unhealthy for sensitive groups
151–200Unhealthy
201–300Very unhealthy
301+Hazardous

Follow the health guidance attached to the reading on AirNow. About the AQI

Smoke overhead isn’t the whole story.

A plume can be high above the ground. Clouds and darkness can limit satellite observations. Particle pollution can also come from sources other than wildfire.

Your indoor air can be different.

Outdoor AQI cannot tell you whether your room is adequately filtered. Use the map for context, follow local alerts, and use your clean-air plan to improve your setup.
